Dujardin Withdraws from Olympics after Whipping Video Emerges
Charlotte Dujardin, a British equestrian who has won three gold, a silver, and two bronze medals in Olympic events, has announced her withdrawal from the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The decision comes after a video emerged of Dujardin repeatedly whipping a horse.
The video, which was posted on social media, shows Dujardin riding a horse named Gio during a training session. In the video, Dujardin can be seen repeatedly whipping the horse on the hindquarters.
Dujardin has since apologized for her actions, saying that she was "deeply sorry" for the pain she caused the horse. She also said that she has "taken full responsibility" for her actions and that she is "committed to learning from this mistake."
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has launched an investigation into the incident. The FEI has the power to suspend or ban riders who are found to have violated its rules.
